Welcome to the Port of Fernandina Problems web site.

This site is designed to allow you to view current events that affect the community surrounding the Port of Fernandina. Due to the industrial nature of the Port; traffic problems, noise, congestion, and real estate issues occur, and cause discord among the neighbors and the community of Fernandina overall.
On this site, we will review these issues.

Don't get this site wrong......the Port has every right to function as it needs; as long as these actions do not infringe on the rights of it's neighbors, or violate local ordinances.

Within this site, we think documentation proves both occur daily.

Are officials  simply ignoring the evidence?

Trucks parking along Dade Street
among the biggest problems

When the Port opened in the late 80's, the neighbors were promised that the trucks would ONLY be using Dade St to enter and exit the Port.

However, the Port has paved a two-block queing lane to allow the trucks to back-up beyond the Port property, within the neighborhood, essentially turning the neighborhood into extra free Port space.

This is obviously a severe disturbance to the neighbors and an affront to the Peace and Quiet of the Historic district.

City of Fernandina Beach has been compliant in allowing this abuse...

The City Commission allowed this queue lane, but has poorly monitored the traffic problems here. While the police do attempt to respond to calls about the traffic being parked in 'no parking' zones, and being parked in the wrong lane of traffic, they are not issuing traffic violations at this time.

This seems to be a bark without a bite.

And, to this action, the truck drivers understand they will not be fined, so, why obey the law?
